The Outdoor Program

The Outdoor Program is similar to IM sports or membership at the Rec Center. It is a program through the Rec Center that allows you to participate in pre planned outdoor activities with your peers through the Rec Center. Each semester, there are 50+ guided trips, events and clinics that involve outdoor activities.

Check their website linked below to see what they are offering this semester!

National Parks

Fort Collins and northern Colorado are rich in preserved areas for you to see. As with all National Parks, they should be treated with respect but explored nonetheless.

Horsetooth Reservoir (pictured above) is just west of Fort Collins. This large park includes a 6 mile long body of water and offers fishing, hiking, paddleboarding, boating, and swimming.

Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park are around an hour away from Fort Collins, depending on traffic. Poudre Canon is very close to Fort Collins, just north on College Ave, or 287. If you feel like driving a little further than an hour, check out the National Parks website to see all the different places you can explore.

Outdoor Gear Rental

As a CSU student, you can rent outdoor gear anytime you like. You can buy a semester long pass to rent gear for outdoor activities, anything from snow shoeing to simple camping gear.

Fort Collins Outdoors

There are a large variety of parks and trails around Fort Collins for you to explore.

The Lory State Park is another National park close to Fort Collins. It's very close to Horsetooth and is full of great trails and opportunities for camping.
